How Vegan are We?

Here’s a quick update about our vegan offerings, as of August 1, 2012.  Here’s a summary:

Baked Goods–All of our breads, bagels, rolls, cookies, cakes, pies, pastries, puddings and brownies are vegan. We use no butter, milk, eggs or any other animal product in any of our baked goods. We use certified organic bread flour, sustainably harvested palm oil, and other excellent ingredients to provide the best possible vegan breads and bakery items. (We also make most of these in a gluten-free version as well).

Soups–All of our soups are made from scratch, so that we can be sure of the ingredients. We make a variety of vegan soups every day, and post them on our facebook page. Our most popular soups are Tuscan White Bean, Chili with Tofu and Beans, and Black Bean and Vegetable. We work really hard to ensure that all of our soups are also gluten-free, as well as being vegan.

Rice Bowl: We make a special rice and beans dish every day, and try to cover the world of vegan cuisine in the process. Some of our weekly favorites include Indian-inspired Chole and Red Lentils with Swiss Chard; Cajun Red Beans and Rice; or Italian-style Rice e Bisi. Each rice bowl special is vegan, and contains a balanced mix of protein, vegetables, and flavor. And, usually, a kick of cayenne.

Salads: We have a variety of organic and local greens, vegetables and fruits for salads, and also offer several vegan mixed salads, like chickpea salad and tofu salad. We make our own homemade vegan herb vinaigrette, Asian vinaigrette, and Southwest 1000 Island. We also make a non-vegan version of the Southwest 1000 Island. Folks can choose to add protein to their salads. We have Daiya, hummus, and chickpeas, the sandwich spreads, and occasionally our own hickory-smoked barbeque tofu. For non-vegans we also have sliced chicken and turkey and dairy cheeses (but we encourage them to try the tofu).

Our sandwiches can be made vegan or non vegan. We offer a variety of toppings on our homemade breads.  We offer several flavors of homemade marinated and baked tofu, including our Reuben-ilicious Fennel, Mediterranean and Creole. We make our own Hummus, and also offer our own homemade vegan sausages. For non-vegans we also have sliced chicken and turkey and dairy cheeses (but we encourage them to try the tofu).

We make coffee drinks, chai lattes and hot chocolate, and have available soymilk, almond milk, and coconut milk, and also carry dairy milk in both whole and non-fat varieties. We have a separate device for making latte and cappuccino that we use for the non-dairy milks.

Are we completely vegan? Not yet, but we do have something yummy for everyone.

      We have a variety of gluten free desserts every day. We always have chocolate chip brownies and chocolate chip cookies. We frequently have Mexican Chocolate Snickerdoodles (with a touch of cayenne pepper) and sometimes gingersnaps or sugar cookies. We also have some items that are occasional. Today, for example, we have an apple tart with a gluten-free shortbread crust, and coconut-lime cupcakes with lime buttercream frosting.
